Scammers are impersonating bail bond agents, contacting victims by phone, and urging them to send payment via Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or other money transfer apps to secure the release of a loved one from jail.
Here’s How the Scam Typically Works:
- 1. The scammer calls a family member pretending to be a bail bond agent.
- 2. They reference accurate details about the arrestee, often found online, to seem credible.
- 3. They pressure the victim to act quickly and send money using a payment app.
- 4. Once payment is made, the scammer disappears, and the money is gone.
